In the competitive world of Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs), the Renault Triber and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga are two popular choices among Indian consumers. Both offer impressive specifications and attractive price points. But how do they fare in terms of safety? Let's delve into the crash test results to find out which of these MPVs ensures a safer drive for you and your family.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga G-NCAP Rating:
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was first tested by Global NCAP in 2019, where it secured 3 stars for both adult and child occupant protection. However, with the revised G-NCAP rules, its rating dropped significantly. The latest results show the Ertiga achieving only 1 star for adult occupant protection and 2 stars for child occupant protection.

Despite good head and neck protection for front-seat passengers, the Ertiga scored 23.63 points out of 34 in the front offset deformable barrier test. Unfortunately, the chest area protection was found lacking, resulting in an unstable body shell rating.

For child occupant protection, the Ertiga scored 19.4 points out of 49, 4.63 points out of 12 for the child restraint system installation, and a disappointing 0 out of 13 for the vehicle assessment score. The base variant comes with 2 airbags, while the top variant offers 4, but the crash test results might be concerning for potential buyers.

Renault Triber G-NCAP Rating:
The Renault Triber underwent its Global NCAP crash test in 2021, receiving 4 stars for adult occupant protection and 3 stars for child occupant protection. However, in the latest crash tests, the MPV managed to score only 2 stars for adult and child occupant protection.

In the front offset deformable barrier test, the Triber scored 22.29 points out of 34. For child occupant protection, it scored 19.99 points out of 49. While chest protection was not optimal, the Triber secured 12.5 points in the side movable deformable barrier test.

Similar to the Ertiga, the Triber's base variant includes 2 airbags, and the top variant offers 4. However, it, too was deemed unstable, unable to withstand loads effectively. The Triber scored 2.95 out of 12 for the child restraint system installation and 0 out of 13 for the vehicle assessment score.

Key Takeaways
Neither the Renault Triber nor the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga includes side curtain airbags hence, the side impact pole test was not conducted on either vehicle. Despite being popular MPVs in India, these crash test results suggest that both cars have room for significant safety improvements. Reworking the safety features of these vehicles could enhance their appeal and provide a safer driving experience for buyers.
