It’s rare in life to meet such a “can-do” couple who take both high technology and detailed craftsmanship in their stride. Meet David Kingston (and his way-better half Dee, out of the picture) about 90% of the way through renovating this 1995 model OKA. Having built 6,000 off-road RV’s , I know a little about them. David & Dee’s thinking in design and build quality is hard to fault. They could make a business out of this! This is a very smart layout. Probably the one vulnerability of this rig is the size of the engine and its power. To offset this, the design is absolutely the lowest possible weight. And if there are difficulties, there is a 20,000lb winch front and rear. Running a winch of that size in 12V is out of the question and even 24V in the rear is massive cabling. So David selected 48V and consulted with us on the ability of the batteries and Scotty to sustain power to either winch. The design can deliver 10,000W ( 800A at 12V) to the winches. All appliances inside are 240v for lightest weight and best efficiency. It’s not well known that a 240V Hisense fridge is TWICE as efficient and about half the price of a comparable 12v Dometic compressor fridge. David and Dee consulted with us all the way. The 6000W #victronenergy Inverter/charger/MPPT is only 11kgs and it will take 16000W of Solar at 300V off the roof. For a reversing camera, David chose the Safiery IP camera with night vision which will be under the rear bar. Finally David and Dee suggested Garmin as the best digital switching system in the market and it was this suggestion that led us to source the product. Customers generally have all the right concepts and we get those concepts to work. So it is a big “thank you” to David and Dee for being so innovative and forward thinking. They are so young at heart! All the best for the #OKA gathering in March 23 #howgoodsthat #traveltheworld #withoutconsumingtheearth #havefundoingit #victronenergy #OKA #garmin #vieo #digitalswitching #IPcameras
