Formula for determining how many 2.5" strips you'll need for your quilt:
Measure the length and width of your quilt. Add together and multiply by 2. This is the total perimeter of your quilt. Add 20" to this number for joining seams and corners.

Divide the above number by the width of the fabric you are using for your binding. This number will give you the number of strips you will need to cut for your binding.

Example quilt is 90 inches wide by 100 inches long
90+100= 190 190x2= 380 380+20=400
Binding fabric is 40" wide so 400➗40= 10
You will need 10 (2.5") strips for your binding

To figure out how much fabric you'll need, simply multiply the number of strips by the width of the strips:
10x2.5= 25
You'll need a 25" piece of 40" wide fabric for the binding
