Doom: The Dark Ages is the latest installment in the legendary Doom franchise, developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. This first-person shooter takes players back to a medieval-inspired world, serving as a prequel to Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal. The game introduces a grittier, darker narrative, focusing on the origins of the Doom Slayer as he battles against the forces of Hell in a brutal war that has raged for centuries.

With heavy melee combat, parrying mechanics, and shield-based gameplay, Doom: The Dark Ages shifts away from the fast-paced movement of Doom Eternal, encouraging players to stand and fight rather than constantly dodge. The game features new weapons, including the Dreadmace, Power Gauntlet, and Skullcrusher, alongside returning classics like the Super Shotgun and Plasma Accelerator. Players can also ride dragons and pilot Atlans, adding a fresh layer of vehicle combat to the experience.

The single-player campaign spans 22 open-ended levels, allowing players to explore ruined castles, ancient battlefields, and dark forests while uncovering the secrets of Argent D’Nur.

Released on May 15, 2025, Doom: The Dark Ages is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 and is available on gamepass day one.
