Anthony Martinez always had a fascination with the military growing up, he knew he wanted to serve. In high school Martinez joined a Marine Corps ROTC program and fell in love with the history and tradition of the Marine Corps. While finishing up boot camp the world changed with the 9/11 terrorist attacks and thrust Martinez into a new war.

In late 2004, Martinez would be put to the ultimate test participating in the Second Battle of Fallujah during Operation Phantom Fury. The battle proved to be the bloodiest of the war and the bloodiest battle involving U.S. Marines since the Vietnam War.

While defending a position known as 'The Alamo' an RPG hit directly above Martinez's head wounding him and his fellow squad leaders.
