But in all seriousness - my good friend Lele invited me on a road trip from Pattaya to Isan stopping through Buriram, Prahkon Chai, Det Udon and finally arriving at her family village in Ubon Ratchatani, Isan.

I make a lot of jokes but I'm incredibly grateful for her agreeing to show me her childhood village, school, the hospital where her daughter was born, mother / grandmother / aunties and uncles. Like many girls who grew up in a harsh farming lifestyle she defied the odds to move to Bangkok and complete a University degree. Like so many others from Northern Thailand she has overcome gargantuan hurdles in her life.

Part #2 of this series - Into the Jungle - should provide insight into village life that few youtube videos have. I've really been granted an access-all-areas pass for this one and I would encourage anyone open to supporting the venture to consider becoming a channel member.

As usual, any derogatory comments about Thailand or women in general will be removed and blocked.
