Tenuta San Guido 2016 Sassicaia Trophy Super Tuscan Italian Wine Review

Описание к видео Tenuta San Guido 2016 Sassicaia Trophy Super Tuscan Italian Wine Review

Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta established Tenuta San Guido in the 1940s. He noted the similarity between the Tuscan terrain and that of Graves in Bordeaux. So between 1948 to 1967, Sassicaia was produced but only for consumption by close family and friends. The first commercially produced Sassicaia for public consumption was produced in 1968. It is the first "Super Tuscan" wine, which had to be originally labelled as an Indicazione Geografica Tipica or IGT wine. In 1994 Sassicaia was granted its own DOC (Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC), the only wine from a single estate in Italy to enjoy this privilege.

Sassicaia (pronounced Sas sa kie (rhymes with pie) ya, not how I pronounced in the video!) translates to "place of many stones"

The 2016 vintage is a blend of 85 % Cabernet Sauvignon 15 % Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in oak for 24 months. Approximately 15, 000 cases was produced.

Tenuta San Guido produces a second wine, Guidalberto, that was introduced in 2000. It is mainly a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend. Their third wine is Le Difese, which is a Cabernet Sauvignon/Sangiovese blend

Wine Spectator rated this wine 97 points.
