North America's Salt Flats | Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah

The Bonneville Salt Flats Utah with our travel tips and guide. We also share beautiful 4K footage and timelapse of the sunset. After seeing Bonneville Salt Flats, we visited West Wendover, Nevada. This city is 15 minutes away from the salt flats, with its night neon lights on the Casino signs. We stayed here overnight to avoid driving back to Salt Lake City at night, which is located 1.5 hours away from the salt flats by way of interstate 80.

Make sure that the salt flats are dry if you are planning on driving on them, as you can get stuck. Also, the corrosive white salt is bad for your car, so wash it off thoroughly afterwards. Though there isn’t too much you can do here with the wide open landscape if you aren’t interested in photography or driving on the salt flats, you can always take a camping chair with you and simply watch the sunset.

We recommend getting here a few hours before sunset to see the pure white salt against the bright blue sky as well as the amazing colors at sunset and twilight. Getting here too early can be hot in summer.
