The Force Engine (TFE) 1.0

Way back in September 2009 I posted a video about a source port for Dark Forces called DarkXL. As time passed by and the original project stalled and then got rebooted from scratch as The Force Engine (TFE), I made a habit of checking out the website once in a while to see if any major update was imminent. Even so, I completely missed a year of significant progress which resulted in a 1.0 release in December 2022.

Compared with both the original DOS version and the promising but very shaky DarkXL mod back in the day, TFE is a wonderful new way to play Dark Forces on modern computers with higher resolutions, widescreen support, increased input options, a new save system (optional to use, of course) and even an integrated mod loader.

Aside from bug fixes, the developer's next goal is to get Outlaws running too...
