How to Crochet a Cat Couch for Your Cat | Free Pattern | Tutorial Tuesday Ep. 120

Crochet cat couches are basically the greatest thing ever. I mean, crochet + cats = 😻 If crochet cat couches are a new concept to you, let me catch you up to speed.

Back in '98, a lady named Candy Clayton published a booklet with three patterns for crochet kitty couches (linked below). Crochet kitty couches are exactly what they sound like: a couch for your cat made by crocheting. Recently, the idea has caught on again, and people have been sharing their own crochet cat couches online. When I saw the idea, I knew I had to make some crochet cat couches for my cats. This video shows the design concept I came up with to create a super basic crochet cat couch. The beauty of crochet cat couches is they are easy to customize. You can use whatever colors you want, add cushions, crochet a mini blanket and throw pillows, or even add ruffles.

Some notes on my design:

2) My dimensions are a bit small for my cats. My cats are average size, in that 9-12 lbs range (one of them is a bit chunkier than the others lol) In the intro/outro clips of the video, I show a larger blue couch that fits my cats better. The dimensions for the seat part of that one is about 12x9.5". You can adapt the method I show in this video to whatever dimensions you want. I mostly went a bit smaller with the one shown in the video so that the video wouldn't be ridiculously long, and so that it took less time to crochet.
3) Having said that, this one took me about 6 hours to make. That does include filming, which stretched the project longer, but there is a good bit of crocheting involved. Nothing crazy hard, just time consuming. I am, however, a bit of a slow crocheter, so it might not take you as long.
4) As I explain in the video, I filled my couch with styrofoam, but you can fill it with stuffing if you would prefer. I like the styrofoam because I think it will last longer, and it helps me make sure the project will turn out exactly how I want it to.
5) Make sure to have fun! I love this idea because it's so quirky yet adorable. No matter how you decide to crochet your cat couch, don't forget to be creative and have fun.
