Plant Pathology Ph.D. Student Eric Otto's research is focused on the biology and ecology of Heterobasidion irregulare, which is an invasive fungal pathogen that is a serious threat to red and white pine trees. Otto is determining the distribution of this new disease in Minnesota and also researching the native fungi that interact with H. irregulare.
