Almost on a daily basis, Information Services at Carthage receives warning notices from the Recording Industry Association of America regarding a copyright infringement that occurred on campus. Along with the notice are details about the infringing work, in other words, the music or movie title AND the IP Address of the computer that downloaded the file -- YOUR IP Address!

If you're using the college network to download and file share illegal content, not only are you liable for legal penalties, but the College is legally responsible for sharing your name with the complaining party.

There are many "legal" sites from which you can download music and movies such as iTunes, eMusic, MTV, AmazonMP3 and many others.
