Folklorist Michael Dylan Foster shares some of his professional interests as a scholar of Japan, focusing in particular on his recent work studying the significance of contemporary community festivals. He also speaks of his interest in writing compelling narratives based on his studies and about his work as a professor in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University Bloomington. The department is an internationally recognized center for the study of expressive culture and vernacular culture. This is second in a projected series of faculty profiles.
