This time it only took 25 tries to do without getting hit and this is basically the same scenario as the Mario video (go check that video out for more info on how I did this). When I did the intense mode classic mode run with Luigi and got Crazy Hand I was shaking in happiness, so I just barely managed to get a good timed save state, and that's why I stand still for a solid one second (I used Dolphin for save states, again check out the Mario video description for more info).
