Renal cortical cyst || Abdominal ultrasonogram || Sonographic prediction cortical cyst
Liver: Normal in size. Hepatic parenchymal echotexture is uniform all over. No focal hyper or hypo-echoic lesion is seen in the liver.
An intrahepatic portion of IVC is normal. The portal vein is normal. Porta-hepatis is normal.
Gall bladder: Normal in size and contour. Wall thickness is within normal limits. No Evidence of echogenic structures or biliary sludge is seen within the gallbladder.
Intrahepatic biliary radicals and common ducts are not dilated. The internal diameter of CBD and the portal vein are within normal limits.
Pancreas: Is normal in size and shape. Parenchyma shows normal echotexture. The Main Pancreatic duct is not dilated.
Spleen: This is normal in size. It is uniform in echotexture. No focal lesion is seen in the spleen.
Kidneys: Both Kidneys are normal in position, shape, and size. Cortico-medullary differentiation is normal in both kidneys with normal cortical echogenicity.
Echogenic renal sinuses are normal on both sides. No evidence of hydronephrosis, mass lesion, or calculus is seen on either side. Ureters are not dilated.
A large cortical cyst is noted in the right kidney measuring 7.2cm.
Urinary bladder: Normal in outline. No wall thickening was seen. No demonstrable intravesical lesion is seen.
A renal cortical cyst is a fluid-filled sac located in the cortex (outer layer) of the kidney. On ultrasonography, its typical features include:
Anechoic appearance: The cyst appears completely black on the ultrasound image due to the absence of internal echoes, indicating it is filled with clear fluid.
Well-defined borders: The cyst has smooth, sharply demarcated walls, differentiating it from the surrounding renal tissue.
Posterior acoustic enhancement: Because the fluid in the cyst allows ultrasound waves to pass through easily, there is an increase in brightness (enhancement) seen behind the cyst.
No internal septations or solid components: A simple cyst does not have any visible internal structures or irregularities.
Round or oval shape: The cyst usually has a regular, rounded shape.
These features indicate a benign simple renal cortical cyst. If irregularities such as septations, wall thickening, or solid components are observed, further evaluation may be necessary to rule out complex cysts or malignancies.
