As a child did you ever hear your parents being intimate? How did it make you feel? Were you disturbed? Were you confused? Did it impact your behaviour or your relationship with them in any way? Did you want to ask questions but felt too embarrassed?

Someone sent me this question recently and I realised how lightly we take this kind of thing.

“There was reel recently where the boy has heard his parents have sex and he is crying and looks like he is traumatized by it. Though this reel is made to be funny it is NOT.
In an average Indian household children sleep with their parents and tend to have such experience, either they hear or worst case, see their parents have sex and it causes permanent trauma as they face that situation at a very young age when they have no idea what it is.
Being a sufferer of this experience, I want to ask you what advice/education would you give the parents on this unpopular topic?
I would also like to ask you that, the children who were then victims of this experience and now as adults know that they still have that memory, but no matter how little it affects them right now, that trauma is still there. So, how do they deal with it?”

Unfortunately children encounter a lot of trauma around “sex related incidents” which can impact them for the rest of their lives but it is never considered important enough to address. Worse still, it is often treated as a joke. We need to start taking these situations more seriously!!
