At a high risk for developing breast cancer, Mistie took matters into her own hands. She met with her doctor regularly and had annual imaging done (mammograms and MRIs). Ultimately, she and her doctor decided the best option for her was to have a prophylactic (preventive) double mastectomy and reconstruction. She decided to share her journey to help any other women who might be considering the same procedure. "I found a lot of information online, but nothing that talked about what the whole process would be like, from start to finish," she said.
