“Don’t worry, I am not allowed to preach, and I don’t want to preach. We came together to enjoy the music, and that’s what we will do. Music, please!” With these words, Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider opened the festive concert on May 27, 2023, held at the Silvertown Auditorium, on the occasion of his visit to Cape Town for Pentecost 2023.

The fourth item on the concert programme was "Alleluia," composed for choir and orchestra. The word "Alleluia" means "Praise Him," a joyful exclamation of worship found throughout sacred music. Giulio Caccini, a prominent Italian composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods, is best known for his contributions to early opera and the development of monody. His "Alleluia," though often attributed to him, is a later adaptation inspired by his lyrical style. Mack Wilberg, renowned for his choral arrangements and his direction of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, transforms this simple yet expressive melody into a rich, harmonically lush choral work. His arrangement enhances the piece with dynamic contrasts, flowing vocal lines, and a sense of grandeur, making it a favorite for choirs worldwide.

This performance by The Choir of the New Apostolic Church Cape Town, conducted by Chad Hendricks, beautifully captured the depth and artistry of Wilberg’s arrangement, delivering a moving and powerful musical experience.
