AI Opportunities to Transform Catchment Managment | David Hamilton, Ajmal Mian, & Richard Campbell

How do we bring together the knowledge, tools, governance models, workforce capability to optimise investments in water catchments? We discuss some of the opportunities for harnessing recent advances in Artificial Intelligence tools to collate diverse data and information sources for catchments. These tools require co-design with end-users and need to be used in a responsible way to address attribution and IP of data and models. Embedded within these protocols, and with catchment science validation, there is a rapidly emerging opportunity for AI to reduce the ‘data churn’ and bring all actors to the negotiating table with access to technical, scientific, and socio-ecological information. This research is planned as part of an application for an ARC Centre of Excellence for Transforming Water Catchments.
