Former Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, has testified that he told former Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu that if she did not resign of her own volition, he would fire her. That's after the findings of the Health Ombud report of 2017 had painted a damning picture of her. Makhura is testifying at the Life Esidimeni inquest underway in the High Court in Pretoria. He and former Gauteng Finance MEC Barbara Creecy have been implicated by Mahlangu, as the people who were behind the termination of the life Esidimeni contract.
The move led to the death of 144 mentally ill patients in 2016.
