In this video, my patient came in 9 months after having achilles surgery. I used a heated, scraping tool from Ached Away to break up scar tissue and adhesions in the achilles tendon and surrounding musculature. Scar tissue is dense and fibrous muscle or connective tissue that forms due to injury, overuse, and weakness. Adhesions are bands of scar tissue that have joined together that need to be broken up. In most achilles rehab, it is important to physically break up scar tissue or it will remain hardened and can cause continued pain or limited range of motion.
