Mukuru: A Valley of Waste

For many an ordinary Kenyan residing in Nairobi, the sprawling Mukuru slums are synonymous with reckless waste disposal. However, as evidenced by satellite image data, this hasn't always been the case.
With officials from both the Nairobi City county government and the National Environmental Management Authority NEMA) clearly stating that the infamous Dandora dumpsite remains the only gazetted waste disposal site in Nairobi, the big question is, who is behind these dump sites?
As Africa Uncensored's Victor Mboya found out, the answers to the question can be found in one of Kenya's most pressing issues: land.
