A group of Japanese travellers have gone straight into quarantine after four chartered passenger jets brought them back from Wuhan, China, the epicentre of the outbreak of the Covid-19 caused by the new coronavirus.

The group is temporarily staying at a hotel in Katsuura, where residents of the seafront city southeast of the capital Tokyo gathered on a nearby beach to offer support and encouragement. As of February 12, 2020, Japan had the highest number of confirmed coronavirus infections outside the Chinese mainland.
