It isn't surprising that the first seeds to sprout under the grow lights are flowers. Vegetables tend to need warmer soil to sprout than flowers and the heat mats are going under the trays tomorrow. The calendula can be planted out as soon as they are a little bigger in my south Louisiana backyard garden and are a wonderful winter flower that can withstand frosts and freezes. I use them medicinally to infuse in oil for salves and skincare, as a companion plant for my spring garden and also in my cut flower garden. You can also tincture calendula, but I haven't tried that just yet. Calendula is anti-inflammatory, is nourishing to the skin, has many detoxifying properties and so much more.

What seeds have you started so far this year? Our last frost date in my area in zone 9 is at the end of February! We are just about 6 weeks away from planting our spring gardens.
