Richter's organ performance and recordings are less famous than his others but he was a remarkably gifted organist who brought the same emotionally charged approach to the organ. Despite being a wonderful technical organist and virtuoso these recordings are first and foremost about conveying the emotion of the music. Tempi vary between extremes but are never dull and there is just a sense of rightness and absolute satisfaction to it all.

The recordings stand the test of time well. No audio equipment can recreate the experience of a good pipe organ and the acoustics of a church but DG did a splendid job capturing these performances. Any technical limitations of 1960's are more than offset by the excellent mic placement and artistic sensibilities of the recording and mastering engineers.

A wonderful set of recordings of wonderful music recorded by a remarkable musician.
