In Episode 50, I venture into the borderland between history and current affairs. This episode is about those main battle tanks used in the Ukraine War, which can already be described as "historic." I'll take a look at the older models used by both sides and see how they perform on a modern battlefield. If this format proves successful, I'll also examine other "historic" weapon systems from this war.



I have to make some kind of disclaimer in advance though:



1.) I'll only briefly touch on the modern tanks; after all, my focus here is on history and I'm not a war correspondent.



2.) I might cover armored vehicles that aren't main battle tanks, such as infantry fighting vehicles or anti-aircraft vehicles, in a future episode.



3.) I'll only be able to provide a rough overview; this is due, first of all, to the amount of material, but also to the uncertainty of the situation. Reports from the combat zones only come from the combatants themselves, and these reports are naturally distorted. Drone footage can also be edited to convey the desired message and omit what one wishes to conceal. Therefore, caution and restraint are called for, especially when it comes to spectacular reports. Special claims require special evidence; since there is no such evidence, I prefer to remain cautious and argue with distance, objectivity, and restraint.
