This is the first demo from the extremely obscure San Antonio, Texas band Death Tripper. Only existing for 3 years (from 1984-1987), Death Tripper still managed to churn out 3 demos of blistering blackened speed and thrash metal that would become typical of many of the earliest black metal bands which came after them. Although the bassist and guitarist of the band don’t seem to have done much after the band, both drummer Louie Rodent and vocalist Chris Gabehart went on to join and perform in other projects. Gabehart went on to briefly join Texas doom band Solitude Aeturnus (providing vocals on the “And Justice for All” EP), as well as providing lyrics to a few tracks on 1991’s “Into the Depths of Sorrow”. Rodent went on to play with bands such as Indignation and Devastation, as well as enjoying brief stints in both Necrovore and Floridian death metal masters Death. For such an obscure band, knowing that the members ended up having some pretty far reaching ties to the broader extreme music scene of the 1980s and 1990s is really fascinating to me.
