I previously posted a very popular YT video about how to replace the useless foam filter on a Dyson V7 cordless vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to reduce fine dust from escaping the vacuum.

A viewer left a comment about an easier way to remove the foam filter housing. I showed how to do it using cards and screwdrivers to pry off the filter housing. their method was much simpler and easier. You just use your thumbs to push up on the filter housing to pop it off. My refurbished Dyson V7 cordless vacuum did not have the HEPA post-motor filter. I thought it was strange that it only came with the standard foam filter because it was the Absolute set, which is the nicest Dyson set.

Fortunately, there is a third-party solution available that replaces the foam filter with a sealed adapter for the HEPA filter. The kit includes both the adapter and the filter and works with either the Dyson V7 or Dyson V8 cordless battery-powered vacuum cleaners.

▼ The problem is how do you remove the original foam filter?
In the previous video, I show 3 different ways to remove the standard foam filter. It's difficult because you need a thin piece of plastic to wedge between the motor and filter housing, and pry of the filter without damaging anything. Using a metal tool would be easiest, but it will damage the plastic. This new video shows a much simpler way to remove it with just your hands.

I no longer recommend the following method to remove. Only use this method if you can not remove it with your hands.
I used old gift cards to wedge between the motor housing and filter. Using the gift cards caused the filter housing to come off with such uncontrolled speed that it's easy to slip and cut yourself on the motor housing. I recommend wedging the card in between, and using the card as a shield for the motor housing, slip a flat screwdriver between the card and filter, and pry of the filter with the screwdriver.
