Hyundai i30 hybrid 2025 review: N Line focus and new MHEV turbo four for Toyota Corolla hatch rival!

The 2025 Hyundai i30 small hatchback has had a major change of heart. Ignoring the i30 N hot hatch for a moment, the city car has swapped out its traditional four-cylinder petrol engine options – its entry-level 120kW/203Nm 2.0-litre naturally aspirated and flagship 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged units – for a new 117kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged number that forms part of a 48V mild hybrid powertrain.

That's right; the i30 hatch has finally gone hybrid – kind of. As a result, improved fuel efficiency is promised, at 5.6L/100km on the combined-cycle test, which represents a decrease of up to 1.9L/100km. This transplant has been prompted by the popular model switching its production source for Australia from South Korea to the Czech Republic, bringing with it a smaller, N Line-only range and, therefore, a much higher starting price.
