Coles 4038 Microphone Review For Drums

Review and demo of the legendary Coles 4038 ribbon microphones for drums.

I got these after months of looking for the ideal drum overheads (to my ears). These really do something other mics don't - including other ribbons.

Skip to the sound test:
Large room - 2:10
Small room (overheads) - 2:47

*in the small room test there is definitely some saturation/mild distortion coming from the preamp. This was unintentional but is an equally valid way of recording and shouldn't affect the differences you hear in the mics.
