The Hummingbird hawk-moth is a butterfly with surprising characteristics:

It is a moth that is active during the day.
It uses its long proboscis to gather flowers during the flight : its hovering flight looks like hummingbirds ones, hence its name.
It is one of the fastest butterflies, and some species migrate more than 2,000 kilometres.

The video shows a specimen of the Macroglossum genus rapidly gathering nectar from flower to flower. Nectar is its only source of energy.

Its caterpillars feed on the leaves of one or more plants specific to the species (bedstraw, for example).
