Sonata in D Major, Z. 850
Edition David Hickman

Recorded remotely December, 2020 in Durham, North Carolina

From the editor:
"Henry Purcell wrote two sonatas for trumpet, strings and continuo. Exactly when his first Sonata in D Major was written is unknown. While logic would lead one to conclude that it was written for John Shore around 1694, the compositional style is distinctly patterned after the trumpet works from the earlier Bologna school, making it one of Purcell's early compositions. Regardless of the date, the sonata is a delightful and significant work in the repertory for the Baroque trumpet."
