If there is a Teachable Moment here, it's succinctly, "don't make things up" or alternately, "don't call it if you don't see it." Replays indicate McCutchen ran in a straight line from first to second base (coincidentally, corresponding to the baseline), and in doing so did not appear to deviate by more than three feet from his base path to avoid a tag attempt, as in Official Baseball Rule 5.09(b)(1).

Replay Review also overturned a safe call at first base, effectively awarding the Mets an inning-ending double play.
