My poem:

If a part of yourself is rootless, wandering and lost
untethered like a balloon
floating high in the air,
buffeted by uncaring winds,
your inner soul-child sobbing, rooted to the ground,
her chubby fist clenching and unclenching
around a string that’s no longer there,
a ghost-string;
despairing, hating herself for being unable
to hold on to the two parts of herself,
unable to hold herself together;

remember
all things are possible

The balloon might tumble to the earth
or become snagged in a friendly tree
or be caught by a helpful bird
or the wind might relent and send a gust
to blow it earthwards.

Or the child might realise she can fly
And rescue it herself.
