History:
Major Archepiscopal Marth Mariam Archdeacon Pilgrim Church, Kuravilangad is a Marian pilgrim center of the Syro-Malabar Church located at Kuravilangad in Kottayam district.

According to popular belief, Mother Mary herself appeared to a bunch of children who were tending to their flock. These kids were hungry and thirsty, and an old woman, appeared out of nowhere - fed them and showed them a spring from where they could drink. The old timers believe that is was Mother Mary who came in the guise of an old woman. The old lady, according to the history books, directed them to build a church next to a spring, which sprouts water even now. The children, informed the elders of the village who constructed a church. The traditional dating of the foundation of the Church is 105 AD.
The church has an ancient bell with the engraving on Syriac language "Mother of God." Three majestic bells were brought from Germany in 1911 and is one of the largest bells in Asia. The church is also known for its Kappalottam or "racing ship," a commemoration of the biblical story of Jonah and the whale.
Kuravilanagdu is famous for the three day Munnunoyambu feast which is participated by more than a lakh people. Rogation of the Ninevites, the three day feast and celebration of miraculous saving of Jonah, the prophet who was swallowed by a great fish is one of the main attraction.
Kuravilangad is blessed by 'Her' divine presence..
