The Toyota Urban Cruiser has made a comeback in Europe after being absent for eight years. This time, it returns as an all-electric compact crossover, drawing design inspiration from the Urban SUV concept revealed last year. The Urban Cruiser brings a fresh option to Toyota’s lineup, blending practicality with innovative electric power.

With dimensions of 168.7 inches in length, 70.8 inches in width, and 64.5 inches in height, the Urban Cruiser is larger than both the Yaris Cross and C-HR hybrids but remains more compact than the bZ4X electric crossover. It shares its platform, battery, electric motors, and interior with the Suzuki e Vitara, as both vehicles are manufactured in the same facility in India.

The powertrain options are straightforward yet versatile. Buyers can choose between two lithium iron phosphate battery packs, offering capacities of 49 or 61 kilowatt-hours. The smaller battery is paired with a single front-mounted electric motor producing 142 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque. The larger battery offers two configurations: a single motor with the same output or a dual-motor all-wheel drive system generating 181 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque.

While Toyota has not disclosed the expected driving range, every Urban Cruiser comes with a heat pump and a manual battery pre-heating function, features designed to enhance efficiency and reduce charging times in colder conditions. Speaking of charging, Toyota has yet to provide details on how long it will take to recharge the battery packs.

The Urban Cruiser’s front-wheel drive models include a Snow Mode to improve grip on slippery surfaces. Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive versions come equipped with Downhill Assist Control and Trail Mode, which redirects torque to the wheel with the most traction when needed.

Inside, the crossover boasts a modern cabin featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen. Standard safety technologies include adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, lane keep assist, and a pre-collision system.

Toyota plans to officially unveil the new Urban Cruiser at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show in January, providing more insights into this exciting electric vehicle.
