Well, BankNifty weekly expiries are gone. NSE has decided to keep a weekly expiry of Nifty and BSE to go ahead with Sensex. Both the exchanges were directed to keep one weekly expiry each and they have decided so.

Weekly expiries, in the last 2-3 years, had shaped the Indian Stock Market highly speculative, as far as retail traders are concerned.

There were so many of them, including, Sensex50, Bankex, BankNifty, Midcap Nifty, Finnifty, Sensex, Nifty and the likes.

Retail traders were exposed to daily expiries. So, basically, you wake up any day of the week and you had an option contract expiring that day. This is not healthy by any standards. This, in fact, is an enticing affair to speculate and the enticement was obviously happening with 91% of option trades booking net loss at the end of the year.

In this video, we discuss all the expiry business, how it started before coming down to where we stand today. What has been the role of SEBI in bringing all these contracts in the first place and on what basis, is this decision being made.
