In their latest evaluations, BJP leaders opined that their support for PC George has ended up with failure. The recent thrikkakara byelection had a shift towards the Janapaksham leader PC George for gaining Christian voter’s support as a whole for BJP.But,it ultimately paved way to lose a great number of votes of Bharatiya Janata party. The move of bringing PC George for campaigns and all was aiming to backlash LDF party and their election strategies, but every effort resulted in vain. A section of BJP activists openly blamed the leaders of the party for wasting time for such a futile move on Thrikkakara byelection.
It was seen that the leaders of the party including Senior leader Kummanam Rajasekharan , State president K Surendran, Union minister V Muraleedharan strongly supported PC George in the hate speech case and even conducted protest marches against Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan ,LDF-led government and Police. The leaders now allege that even after working hard for PC George, the poll benefits completely helped the UDF party.
Former Spokesperson of Syro Malabar Church Father Paul Thelekk criticised Bharatiya Janata Party’s decision to back PC George by all means in the by-election. The party must realise that the public has the sense to think and act.
BJP candidate AN Radhakrishnan and leaders had visited church authority and leadership before election.They had a belief that the party could garner 2000+ votes this time along with extra 5000 minority votes and the 15000 votes gained by BJP last year.But after the election, it was confirmed that the party had visible decline in the vote share especially in the Christian-dominated areas.
Thrikkakara by-election was held in the wake of the death of Congress Legislator P T Thomas. Congress had fielded his wife Uma Thomas as its Thrikkakara by-election candidate. The Left candidate was cardiologist Dr Jo Joseph of the CPI(M). The BJP had its seasoned leader A N Radhakrishnan as the candidate.
