In this video, I show you how much I paid for a computer I recently bought in 2021, and 2024. This will give you an overview of home much you could spend if you wanted to get a decent computer today.

The most expensive parts of any computer are the CPU, and GPU. Those components will deter how well your computer performs. For me, I usually get a mid range processor and GPU, something that will run most applications. I don't buy the lowest end CPU or GPU, nor do I buy the highest end. I don't do this, because even the highest end CPUs and GPUs depreciate in value much more quickly. In terms of performance, the highest end hardware can't match next generation medium level hardware.

To me, a computer is like a tool to get work done. Just like a automobile is a vehicle to get from point A to B. I don't have to buy a super car and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars. I just need a better than average car, like a luxury car. I don't want to drive a Toyota Corolla, or a some old used car. Less expensive vehicles may not be safe to drive, or they may be unreliable. The cheapest computers tend to become outdated more quickly. The mid high computer tend to last the longest in my opinion. The graphics card can always be upgraded later, and it will be more powerful than the most powerful GPU I get now. Even the CPU could be upgraded for much less later. Those are the strategies I use when I invest in computer hardware.
