The Importance of Hydration

Описание к видео The Importance of Hydration

Our body is about 60% water, but Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist Erika Graziani said many people aren’t getting enough of it. “If you’re not having to use the restroom at least every 2 to 4 hours throughout the day, then you’re probably not drinking a whole lot.”

That can lead to headaches, fatigue, constipation, poor skin health, and dehydration. That can be especially dangerous for athletes. “If they’re dizzy or cramping or sweating, or not sweating, nausea, vomiting, all of those different things are all signs,” said Injury Prevention Specialist Tracey Thornton.

Your urine can also be a good barometer for your hydration levels. “It should be like a pale yellow, if it’s really dark, almost like a dark yellow or closer to orange, you’re very dehydrated.” Said Graziani.

Graziani said 64 oz or 8 cups a day of water is good for most people. “Keep some water at your bedside, first thing you get up start drinking water. If you sip it and drink it all throughout the day most people are going to get in what they need.”

Graziani encourages her patients to avoid sodas, both regular and diet. She said sparkling water can be a nice change-up, but plain water is best. Fruits and veggies can also help contribute to your fluid needs.
