यूजीसी के नए नियमों के खिलाफ देशभर में विरोध तेज हो गया था। मथुरा में प्रदर्शन जारी था और 1 फरवरी को भारत बंद का ऐलान भी किया जा चुका था। इसी बीच सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने इस पूरे विवाद पर बड़ा हस्तक्षेप करते हुए UGC के नए नियमों पर अंतरिम रोक लगा दी है।याचिकाओं पर सुनवाई के दौरान मुख्य न्यायाधीश सूर्यकांत ने अहम टिप्पणी करते हुए कहा कि देश को जातिविहीन समाज की दिशा में आगे बढ़ना चाहिए। अदालत ने इस मामले में केंद्र सरकार और विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग (UGC) को नोटिस जारी कर जवाब मांगा है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट के इस फैसले को UGC नियमों के खिलाफ चल रहे आंदोलनों के लिहाज से बेहद अहम माना जा रहा है और इसका असर आगामी विरोध प्रदर्शनों और भारत बंद पर भी पड़ सकता है।

Protests against the new UGC rules were gaining momentum across the country, with demonstrations reported in Mathura and a call for a nationwide shutdown on February 1. Amid this backdrop, the Supreme Court has stepped in and imposed an interim stay on the implementation of the UGC’s new regulations. During the hearing, Chief Justice Surya Kant observed that India must move towards a casteless society. The bench also issued notices to the central government and the University Grants Commission, seeking their response. The court’s intervention is being seen as a crucial development that could significantly impact the ongoing protests and the proposed India Bandh.
