Lego air engines are fascinating, and can be a great way to power Lego inventions. In this video, we build and test an air-powered turbine to drive a Lego car. The car will be powered by an onboard 2 litre tank of compressed air. The pressurised stream of air is passed into a turbine, spinning it rapidly. A gear reduction then turns this into usable power that can be used to power Lego inventions, like an RC car!

There are various Lego designs for turbines we can use. Some of them can capture more air, but may not have enough blades to prevent stalling under load. Others may have more blades (e.g., a gear) but reduced surface area to capture air. Let’s find out what designs work best, and which are more efficient! And then build some radio controlled mechanisms to control an air-powered car.
