Hailing from a family of musical geniuses such as violin maestros T N Krishnan and N Rajam, Kala Ramnath trained under her father and also her aunt, N Rajam. She has been trained under Pandit Jasraj of the Mewati gharana, which gives her violin playing an additional vocal dimension. Her technique is a synthesis of immaculate bowing and fingering, coupled with a remarkable command over sur and laya. She displays her prowess in her interpretation of Miyan ki Todi, a melancholy late morning raga.
