A great many festivals, parades and medieval pageants take place within Alcala la Real each year with the biggest being Etnosur which takes place in the month of July.
In 1997 the Festival of Ethnic Encounters was created in the Sierra Sur, known as Etnosur. It is a festival characterized by concerts of ethnic and alternative music, in addition to presenting exhibitions of handicrafts, various workshops for audience participation, exhibitions, film and documentary screenings, conferences, etc. Since then, the importance of the festival has been increasing, reaching 45,000 visitors in the 2008 edition.

Alcalá la Real has a football team, CD Alcalá Enjoy, although the sport of most national projection in the town is field hockey. The team, after several seasons in the 1st national division, has ascended to honours division, the top women's category in field hockey in Spain. In addition several players are or have been in the lower and absolute categories of the Spanish hockey team.

Another sport that stands out for its great achievements at the national level is acrobatic gymnastics, with numerous achievements in all categories and proclaiming itself year after year as one of the strongest clubs in Spain. Athletics is another local sporting reference, with the presence of a team integrated in the Hockey Club that competes nationally and internationally in mountain races.
