This video explains how to replace the CCFL backlites in a Viewsonic VP2130b monitor with LEDs. The VP2130b monitor was manufactured between 2005 and 2008. Many have high usage and the CCFL backlites are failing. The old CCLF backlites can be replaces with modern LEDs with are brighter, last longer, and use half as much power. This video is very detailed step by step, and intended for someone who has not done this before. The only tools needed are some small Philips head and flat head screwdrivers.
Problems:
1: The original CCFL lites are long continuous lite sources that provide a homogeneous illumination of the screen. The LEDs are small discreet lite sources and this will cause inhomogeneity at the top and bottom of the screen.
2: The LED lites have a color temperature that is higher than the original CCFLs lites. This give whites a slight bluish tint. I find it a bit unpleasant. You can decrease the color temperature of the monitor manually. Bring up the main menu by pressing the button on the far right and select "color adjust".
After replacing the backlites in one monitor and finding these problem, I decided on the second monitor I would put some lite diffusers on the edges of the big Plexiglas block that is just below monitor screen. This is added at the end as a modification to the original instructions. You should watch the entire video before starting.
As always, be very careful when handling the screen and the cables that supply signal to it. They are easily damaged and not repairable.
