Named after the King of the United Kingdom, Prince Edward Station was opened in 1982/05/10 along with the Tsuen Wan Line. Though the exit didn't open until 1982/05/17. The main structure of the station has been built in 1980 but the Tsuen Wan Line platforms were still being built and not open till 1982. This station is the first opposite direction cross-platform interchange station in Hong Kong. Along with Mong Kok Station, they formed the interchange pair for the Kwun Tong Line and Tsuen Wan Line. This pratice is loved by passengers that it has extended to future interchange station. Even though this station is not located in the busiest part of Mong Kok, it still has a lot of interchange passengers using it.

以英國皇儲命名的太子站在1982年5月10日荃灣綫通車時啟用，車站主體其實在1980年已經建成，但當時仍在興建荃灣綫月台，而太子站出口在1982年5月17日才啟用。太子站是全港首個採用反方向跨月台轉乘的車站，與旺角站形成一對轉乘車站。因為反方向跨月台轉乘受乘客歡迎，因此類似安排亦影響未來轉車站的設計。雖然太子站並不是位於旺角最繁華的地段，但仍有非常多轉車的乘客使用。
