Long ago, it is said that in a village there lived a wealthy man. He owned many animals. His animal pens were always full. He had plenty of wealth and property.
One day, a disease spread among his animals. One by one, the animals began to die. He became very worried. Although he had enough money, his daily expenses kept increasing. Gradually, all the valuable items from his house were sold, and the situation became very difficult.
Very worried, one day his wife said to him,
“My friend owns a cow. He is the leader of the village. Go to him and tell him about your problem, and ask for help.”
Her words touched his heart. Without delay, he went to his friend’s house. Seeing his friend, he felt relieved. That person asked him,
“Why have you come?”
The man said,
“I need your help,”
and he told him everything about his condition.
Hearing this, his friend said,
“Don’t worry. I will definitely help you.”
Then the friend gave instructions to his servant and brought out a cow. He told the man,
“Take this cow with you. If you ever need help again, come to me.”
After this, the man returned home with the cow. A few days later, the cow also fell sick and died. The man became extremely worried again. He remembered his friend’s words and thought about going back to him.
When he went back to his friend, his friend smiled and said,
“Don’t worry,”
and once again he gave him a cow and sent him back with reassurance.
Again, the cow fell sick and died. This happened several times. Every time, the man would go back, and his friend would calmly give him another cow.
One day, when yet another cow died, instead of feeling sad, the man noticed that this time the illness had spread much less than before. This time, fewer animals died.
The man was intelligent. He thanked God and bought another animal. Gradually, the condition of his animals improved. Happiness returned to his home.
One day, he went to his friend and said,
“Now when my bad time has passed and happiness has knocked on my door, it is my duty to honor your friendship. I no longer need help. All my animals are fine now.”
Hearing this, his friend smiled and said,
“You are capable of standing on your own now.”
Moral / Lesson
This story teaches us that true friends help us in difficult times — but not in a way that makes us dependent forever. Real wisdom is helping someone stand on their own feet.
