This is a variation of the zebra midge, a simple pattern that’s easy to tie and will work wherever you are fishing! Midges are one of the most plentiful food sources in a water body, available all year round. While they are small, fish will feed on these in large quantities, particularly when other bug sources are not as active. No matter where you go, these are worth taking with you. This particular one is one I’ve been using as an attractor pattern to help draw attention to these tiny flies. I like this one for brook trout, but the possibilities are endless. Black is another color I like to use to add just a bit of flash to an otherwise natural-looking bug. Traditional or flashy, this is one pattern that is in every nymph box I own, no matter the river it was intended for.
