The Joro Spider (Trichonephila clavata) has taken hold across the Southeast, weaving bright, golden webs that stretch across yards, forests, and city streets alike.

I’ve been watching them since they first arrived here, seeing how they build, compete, and coexist with our native orbweavers, like the garden spider (Argiope aurantia). In this video, I share what I’ve learned: from their layered web design to their quiet competition with local species, their social behaviors, and what makes their story such a remarkable reflection of change in nature.

The Joro didn’t choose to come here. But now, they’re part of the story.
