"Dynamite" is a story-song about a dangerous or forbidden love, using an exciting and explosive metaphor and analogy.
This song almost didn't happen. The very first line I wrote on this months ago was, "Our love is a lit stick of dynamite on a runaway stagecoach." I worked on it for a while, but I just wasn't happy with it and it ultimately ended up in the trash. More recently, I decided to give it another chance, so I pulled it out of the trash (thank goodness for digital files), reworked the lyrics, then got to work on the music. In my mind, it could only come to life if it sounded like it belonged in an old Western movie -- something like in one of those great Spaghetti Westerns, or sung by Johnny Cash. After playing with a few different melodies and then adding in the instruments, it finally came to life. I am SO glad I gave this song another chance, and I hope you agree. Maybe this could be the theme song for a new Western movie!
